If you're considering adoption, you may have questions about what the process looks like and whether it's the right choice for you. Adoption is a personal decision, and there are many different paths available.

The Women's Resource Center provides educational resources, answers to your questions, and connections to trusted adoption resources so you can better understand your options.

What is Adoption?

Choosing adoption means creating a plan for your child's future with the help of licensed adoption professionals.

Every adoption experience is unique, and today's adoption plans can offer different levels of communication and involvement between birth parents and the adoptive family.

Learning about adoption doesn't mean you've made a decision - it simply gives you the opportunity to understand one of your pregnancy options.

Types of Adoption

  • Allows for varying levels of communication and ongoing contact between birth parents and the adoptive family.

  • Communication typically takes place through an adoption agency or intermediary while allowing some level of shared information.

  • Little or no identifying information is shared between birth parents and the adoptive family.

Every adoption plan is different, and a licensed adoption professional can help explain what each option may involve.
